Company History
One of Mudgee's oldest family businesses turned 130 in 2005.
Stoddart's Joinery has been through good times as well as tough times as it marks this historic milestone, proprietor Peter Stoddart said this week.
As he poured over some archival material – including a photograph of his great-grandfather, James, his grandfather, Gordon and his father, Keith – Peter Stoddart took a moment to reflect on the occasion.
"I know my father would be proud of what we have done here," he said. |

It was Peter's great-grandfather, James who started the family business in 1875. Some of his contemporaries of the day would have been Kellett's, Hodges Butchery and JAS Loneragan.
One of the first jobs was the roof of the historic Mudgee Town Hall. Stoddart's Joinery also built the rotunda in Robertson Park.
For its first 100 years, home was the present Wanderlight Motor Inn site followed by Settlers Store Antiques and Furniture on Mortimer Street.
Stoddart's then moved to its current Industrial Avenue location in 1990. In all these years, one would be hard-pressed to find a business or home in Mudgee today that has not been touched in some way by Stoddart's Joinery. It now predominately manufactures timber and aluminum windows and doors but also makes everything from shower screens to accessories; repairs windows and doors and installs glass.
Stoddart's Joinery would also be familiar to home renovators as it makes those one-off building materials not used today, such as architraves, skirting boards and doors.
Today's Stoddart's Joinery is a hive of activity. With its modern showroom and factory in historic Mudgee, Stoddart’s is well placed to provide great products and service to the region. Above all, the company prides itself on its quality products and is considered the best at what it does in the central west.
The Stoddart’s are also very much members of the Mudgee community, with Peter and Jim Yeo - also known as band Never2Old - and the boys also involved in cricket, rugby league and touch football. It continues to be a family business with Peter's wife, Margaret a co-owner and Peter's sons, Daniel and Ben, working in the shop.
Needless to say, Stoddart's Joinery is in very good hands and looking forward to the next 130 years of servicing Mudgee and surrounds. |
